I believe that the United Nations security service operates well because it is coordinated effectively by Headquarters and supported by a responsive global team of innovative and professional staff. Each team in the field brings with it diverse experiences, backgrounds and cultures but each one is united and shaped by the objective of common goals and the principles of the Organization.

In 1997, I joined the Civilian Police component of the United Nations Preventive Deployment Force in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Our mandate at that time was to prevent the spread of the conflict from Albania and ensure security in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

The United Nations is a unique organization that offers a multitude of career opportunities in the field. From 2001 to 2007, I worked on two fascinating projects in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, which enriched my experience in administration and field operations. The first project was the registration of Kosovo residents administered by the Central Civil Registry. Our team successfully collected and secured the data of over two million people, which was used for democratic elections, the issuance of individual documents and other official requirements. The second project aimed to help resolve property disputes, which arose due to the conflict in Kosovo. The Housing and Property Directorate (later called the Kosovo Property Agency) worked through the complete legal cycle of property claim processing, decision-making and implementation, restoring the rights of affected people.

Since 2008, I have worked as a Security Officer in multiple locations from the Balkans to Africa. Each experience has brought challenges due to the often rapidly changing security situation on the ground. As security specialists, it’s our job to be one step ahead of any situation so that we can ensure the safety and security of all our clients in the missions we serve.

I believe that continuous education is important so during this time, I undertook additional training. In 2012, I was very proud to receive my Master of Science degree in Security and Risk Management.

I am honoured to serve the Organization as a security expert and proud to work with a great team of security professionals worldwide who I can count on as we work together in our effort to help make the world a safer place.
