The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. This position is located in organizational unit throughout the Secretariat both at Headquarters and UN Offices away from Headquarters. The Programme Officer typically reports to the head of a unit or to a senior Programme Officer. The focus of these jobs is to lead the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes, operations and other activities in an assigned functional area. UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) manages UN-Habitat’s project portfolio in the Arab States.The primary focus of the position will be on the implementation of the new project established with Ministry of Municipalities, Rural Affairs and Housing. The new project has multiple focus on area of classification of municipalities system from both administrative as well as spatial side, supporting the spatial planning framework which includes developing of regulatory tools, planning standards and urban planning and design relevant guidelines. The incumbent will secondarily help towards supporting Programme implementation, development, monitoring and reporting, in relation to the office of UN-Habitat in Saudi Arabia with its diverse focus on housing, informal settlements, urban planning, urban economy, urban legislation, urban information management and other thematic areas as prescribed in the priorities of the 2022-2026 UN Country Framework of Saudi Arabia, support Saudi Vision 2030 and UN-Habitat Strategic Plan. This post is located in UN-Habitat/ROAS at the Riyadh duty station and the incumbent will report to the Head of Country Programme and under the full guidance of the Regional Representative for the Arab States.
