The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The position will support UNEP's work in relation to the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP) Accelerator Partnership Programme. The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative to strengthen National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) i.e. ensuring alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and increase their uptake at the national level to catalyse accelerated action. This initiative is bringing together governments, international and regional organizations and other relevant stakeholders to support the development and implementation of ambitious NBSAPs that drive the transformative change needed to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the KMGBF and, ultimately, the global vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. This post is located in the Ecosystems Division, Biodiversity & Land Management Branch at the Nairobi duty station.
