As a graduate student in Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, I never gave up on the hope that I might one day have the chance to change the world. After obtaining my Master’s degree, I immediately searched for opportunities to work with the United Nations. Today, knowing that this dream has become a reality, I cannot help but feel proud and fortunate. This is truly the chance of a lifetime.

My career with the United Nations has taught me that the smallest of actions have the potential to make the biggest of impact. Taking initiative, I decided early on to embark on a challenge that would allow me to make a positive difference for developing populations by supporting the availability of access to quality natural resources. As an Administrative Assistant, planning is a big part of my job. When the Water Security Section of the Environmental Division needed help in organizing a landmark meeting, I jumped on board to plan the Preparatory Meeting to Study Possibilities for the Establishment of the Council of Ministers on Water Security of Asia-Pacific (COMWAP). Yes, it is a big name for a big cause. Renewable water is a key issue for the Asia-Pacific region. There is barely a monitoring system for clean water in this region; in the past, providing clean water for people has never been a priority. I believe everyone has not only the right but the need to drink healthy and clean water. I am extremely proud of the administrative support I provided for this meeting. As a team, we helped this issue finally find a voice.

My career with the United Nations may be young, but I believe there is much opportunity to come with the future. I have discovered the most effective impact can be made only when we work together. It is all about “We” rather than “Me”. Together with my fellow United Nations colleagues we will continue to make the world we live in a better place.
