Just as each nation is one part of the entire globe I like to consider myself as a piece of the international puzzle. Member States play a part in executing the mandates of the United Nations, and staff members fulfill a role that is necessary to the successful delivery of these mandates. My goal is to actively assist the Organization in achieving the outcomes necessary to create world peace and security.

When I first applied for an internship with the United Nations, I had no idea how extensive my level of contribution would be. I knew I wanted to make some sort of a difference, even if in the smallest way. As long as I could contribute to a positive outcome, I would be satisfied. The perfect opportunity arose when I was accepted an internship with the Narcotics Control and Estimates Division of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna. UNODC focuses on maintaining international policies on drug control, monitoring both illegal and legal drug trafficking, and researching narcotic drugs. My internship has introduced me to a completely new professional realm, which I may otherwise never have entered. I have gained in-depth knowledge of how governments and international organizations interact and work together to fight illicit drug trafficking and abuse.

Being introduced to such an intriguing field through my internship with the United Nations has been fascinating, challenging, and exceptionally rewarding. Although I have interned before with the Consulate General of Austria in Istanbul, the German- Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon, and the Energy Regulatory Authority of Austria, I have noticed a unique spirit that accompanies the United Nations staff. The United Nations is truly a family; one day, I hope that I will be a part of it.
