There is an old Chinese proverb: Nature, time and patience are the three best physicians. The best physicians towards peace may I add. Throughout my time at the United Nations Radio and Television Service I embrace patience and protect nature and our earth.

I have always been committed to preserving our environment and earth by using the voice of media. It is a powerful voice and a passionate one. As a journalist I believe my trade can right wrongs and make the world a better place.

Today my radio reports for the United Nations see me covering anything from climate change to Chinese education campaigns which integrate Olympic knowledge into the academic curriculum.

My job in a nutshell is to tell people all over the world who we are and what do we do at the United Nations. It is a multi-faceted job. One morning I could be rewriting a 20-page report filled with political jargon or technical terms into a 30-second-long radio news story. In the afternoon I could be interviewing a peacekeeper for an in-depth look at the dire humanitarian situation in Darfur, then broadcasting the General Debate to millions of people worldwide for better awareness on some of the most pressing challenges and issues human beings are facing today. In my downtime I could be coming up with creative new plans to promote our multimedia services and boost cooperation with our partners and clients. I am constantly on the go, go, go … and I love every minute of it.

Working for United Nations Radio is a privilege. The Organization is a symbol of hope for the less fortunate. It brings sunshine to their lives, reminding people we can and we will make the world a better place. I broadcast that sunshine and spirit everyday.

Over 300 million listeners and 368 international broadcasters worldwide receive United Nations Radio. Our team is 52 radio producers strong in New York. We have produced programmes in 13 different languages and broadcast daily in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Swahili. We put all our material for broadcasts online: audio, video, scripts, photographs and our newscasts. Our clients can then download whatever they need, whenever they need it.

My journey to the United Nations began in September 2007 after successfully passing the National Competitive Exam. I was born into a large Muslim family in Ürümqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uyghur. This is an autonomous region in northwestern China. It has recently seen much civil strife as well as earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the furthest city from any sea in the world.

Before joining the United Nations, I worked as a professional journalist in both radio and television for seven years, including three years in Australia as Chief Foreign Correspondent of China Radio International covering the southern Hemisphere. At the same time, I also produced and hosted an English Talk Show on China Central Television and was a volunteer spokesman for “Beijing Save Water” campaign as well as a Trainer and Examiner of 'Beijing Citizen Speaking English Program' for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Today my career has brought me to New York City. Here, it can be a hard and impersonal mega-city. Nevertheless, I love living in this metropolis. Where else can you find such diversity -- of food, culture, style and opinion -- or so much life right outside your front door.
