The United Nations means everything in the world to me; this institution and its mission inspires me to do my job as Security Officer to the best of my ability. Growing up in Beirut, Lebanon, I understood personal hardships associated with political instability and volatile social activity. I understood the importance of security operations and safety, which is why the United Nations appealed to me. The United Nations has been actively involved in the social and political strife of Lebanon since 1958.

Before coming to work with the United Nations, I served as Chief of Sergeants in the Internal Security Forces (ISF) in Beirut, Lebanon. I was a team leader for several police officers in the Close Protection Operations and in forensic affairs. As a team leader, I learned the importance of management, attentiveness, and leadership. I honed these skills through numerous investigations within the department. In 2006, I decided to offer my skills in full to the United Nations.

I came to the United Nations because I believed in the importance of safety, security, and equitable opportunities for people all over the world. I recognized that there are so many people in this world who are voiceless; they suffer through social and political unrest, and they wake up each day unsure of what hardships await them. I feel for them because I know all they want in this world is peace and prosperity. This knowledge drew me to the United Nations because its mission is simply that - to provide opportunities to people of the world and to assist states in their search for peace.

I began my service for the underprivileged people of the world in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). I served as a Security Officer, as well as a Close Protection Officer for the Executive Secretary of ESCWA. I also worked in the Department of Political Affairs, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon as a Close Protection Officer. My workday is quite intense and requires me to be prepared for any event. In one instance, I may be providing direct protection of the Special Coordinator, and in another I may be plotting a vehicular route for a movement between installations. Since security is cyclical, I must constantly think about the next move. It is my job to protect the officer in my branch in order to facilitate their work. I now serve as a Close Protection Officer for the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Central African Republic . I feel I am an integral part of the United Nations mission.

I love the city of Beirut. After a long day of work, I enjoy spending my days down along the seashore. The Mediterranean Sea is so beautiful and has an abundance of activity. I love swimming and fishing, but sometimes I love to come back from work and relax on the beach with a book, with the smell of salt in the air and the sound of the waves crashing along the shore.
