When I was still in high school in Argentina, a school counselor told me that my career would be in human resources in an international organization. Shortly after, I had the opportunity to study abroad at schools in Germany and South Africa on a scholarship exchange. I arrived in South Africa in 1993, right in time to witness a monumental societal change in the country with the election of Nelson Mandela. I was inspired to do everything in my power to make a difference in the world. Knowing that I wanted to work at an international organization, I went back to Germany to study for my degree in Political Science.

After completing my degree, I went to New York as I wanted to become involved with the United Nations. Eventually I landed an internship with the United Nations Development Programme as a volunteer coordinator. After a couple of years, I managed to get consultant work and eventually a job as a Human Resources (HR) Specialist. Most of my career has been spent doing some form of HR work because I wanted a job where I could help by supporting our people in the field. That’s exactly what HR is for, to be effective where it matters most. I chose the United Nations specifically because I believe in its peacekeeping mandate, which has a far-reaching impact on all our colleagues in the field.

In my current role as Chief of Outreach and Gender in the Department of Field Support, a key objective is to liaise with regional partners to identify suitably qualified female candidates from under-represented countries and to encourage them to apply for positions at the United Nations. The Organization has been taking significant steps to foster equal opportunities for women and today there are more women than ever holding senior positions in the United Nations. I am proud to play a key part in bridging gender gaps in the field, and passionate about helping staff get the most satisfaction from their career. My priority at work is to be focused on people and the work that they do.

A key aspect of the Outreach mandate is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, especially in the more "non-traditional" field careers such as Aviation, Engineering and others male dominated areas. I am committed to the achievement of gender parity in promoting UN Careers in the field. The Outreach team regularly evaluates its own work to enhance decision-making and contribute to learning how best to achieve gender equality across all of our 24 occupational groups.
