I enjoy working for the United Nations because of its diversity. No matter where in the world you serve, you can meet people from many cultures who speak different languages. This rich cultural diversity that staff members are exposed to every day makes work an interesting and enriching place to be. I enjoy my work in procurement and supply chain management because of the strong linkage between the private sector and the Organization’s global procurement operations, which is critical to the effective and efficient management of a client-driven service. Procurement can have an enormous impact on local markets, local industry and local job growth, which is a significant factor that I am very conscious of in my role. After receiving my Master’s degree in Business Administration, I began working with United Nations agencies in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, a dynamic logistics hub and a great place to learn and develop. Afterwards, I moved around the Organization working in various roles in various field missions and Offices away from Headquarters before transferring to the Procurement Division at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Currently, I am serving as a Procurement Officer in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. My primary role is managing a team that works together to ensure that Procurement supports the mission’s mandate effectively. Every day is different when you work as a Procurement expert in peace operations. A typical day may include ensuring that the companies we engage with comply with local labour laws to managing the procurement of various complex services, goods and other materials. Working for the United Nations has given me the opportunity to keep growing professionally and to effect change. I believe that the Organization offers many options, especially if you are willing to work hard and be mobile, multiple career paths can be available to you.
