is located in the UN Environment/ Economy Division, at the Geneva duty station.


The staff member, under the overall supervision of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) secretariat Coordinator, within delegated authority, the Programme Officer will be responsible for knowledge management development and functions of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) secretariat as well as related project management duties for the execution of SAICM GEF projects.

Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

1.) Project management duties for execution of SAICM GEF projects, including tracking overall project progress, communicating with partners and stakeholders, overseeing donor reporting and project review.

2.) Lead the development and implementation of the SAICM knowledge management strategy, including a comprehensive list of needs (technical and substantive) for consideration in its development; working with technology development partners in implementing the project developments.

3.) Day-to-day management of the SAICM knowledge management platform and related activities, including consultation with SAICM GEF project members, SAICM stakeholders and UN Environment staff.

4.) Support the SAICM Secretariat in the creation and maintenance of the different sections of the knowledge management platform; plan and undertake training or awareness raising on the new platform (i.e. webinars), with SAICM and GEF project stakeholders and the larger knowledge management community; organize the knowledge management platform public launch; determine which eventual developments can be facilitated by linking with existing knowledge management platforms; incorporate visual prototypes (i.e. interactive maps, dashboards), SAICM Quick Start Programme database and Specials Programme database into the SAICM Knowledge Management platform.

5.) Develop analysis and reports to populate the Knowledge Management platform: produce diagnostic reports on initiatives, resources and geographical and sectoral representation of members and initiatives in the knowledge management platform; extract and organize the portfolio of work in run-up to mid-term review; produce diagnostics reports on the effectiveness and reach of social media platforms and SAICM website; produce qualitative reports based on diagnostic results, including recommendations to the management of the knowledge management platform.

6.) Performs other duties as required (10% per cent).

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in information technology, engineering, environmental sciences, environmental management, law or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management , information technology platforms as well as experience in project management or related area is required. Experience working in a multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary context is desirable. Good understanding of sustainable development and familiarity with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
