Cadre organisationnel

The Technology Development, Design and Planning Section (TDDPS) under the FTS umbrella is responsible for the development of projects and services that satisfy the requirements of the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions. DFS has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the processes DFS undertakes.

Responsabilités

Technology Development Unit is a central pillar of the TDDPS section and acts a centre of excellence for idea generation, transformation of ideas into products/solutions or enhancing existing solutions that address problems facing Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions through the use of Information Communication Technology ICT. You will be working with a team professionals that have combined decade’s long experience in the UN field missions. Reporting directly to the chief of Technology Development Unit, you will assist in developing the Technology Innovation framework, carry due diligence on existing/emerging solutions, provide strategy consulting, carry out internal marketing, work with various stakeholders, provide suggestions on improvement of existing solutions , and create SOPs just to name a few. You will be dealing with real world problems and thus tackling them requires multitude of skills-sets

Formation

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme.

MBA/MSc student with at least one year of classes completed desirable.

Areas of studies should be in the field of information technology, business administration, supply chain management, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, engineering, architecture, logistics or communication.

Be computer literate in standard software applications

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship, but 1-2 years of experience in strategy, consulting, technology innovation and finance is desirable.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the UN. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
