Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Operation Support Division (UN OSD) is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the Field Missions.

The Technology Development, Design and Planning Section (TDDPS) under the FTS umbrella in the Global Service Centre in Valencia, Spain is responsible for the development of projects and services that satisfy the requirements that the Department of Operational Support (DOS) undertakes.

The Project Management and Planning Unit (PMPU) is a central pillar of the TDDPS Section and is responsible for the development of Project Management and Project Planning projects that satisfy the requirements of the Department of Operational Support (DOS) missions and filed office through the use of standard project management methods for Technology projects.

The SGITT/TDDPS/Project Management and Planning Unit (PMPU) internship is for six months in Valencia. Two posts are available.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the mission to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The internship, for a maximum period of 6 months, will work under the direct guidance of the Chief Project Management and Planning Unit (PMPU) and Chief Technology Development, Design & Planning Section (TDDPS) at United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) and will be responsible for following duties:

•Fully comply with DOS and UNGSC Project management framework, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Working Gaudiness (WG) and Practices;
•Ensure compliance with organizational policy including Financial Rules and Regulations, Procurement Manual, Organizational Directives and Administrative Instructions;
•Assist in developing and analysing project proposals and when required develop and study Business Cases to ensues alignment with Organization Strategy and ensure continues business justification;
•Assist in creating required standard project’s documents, such as: Project Mandate, Project Initiation Document (PID), Risk and/or Issues Registry using the approved templates;
•Assist in developing and maintaining the Project Implementation Plan;
•Assist in implementing project plans, meeting the established timelines and milestones within tolerances set by the project board;
•Draft, prepare and update all related project documents as required in UNGSC Project Management as per the approved framework using OICT/ICTD project management tools and services;
•Monitor projects on a regular basis, evaluating progress and quality, report issues and follow resolution process to ensure corrective actions are taken;
•Maintain the quality of all document/data to assure the integrity of a project;
•Report, analysed data and communicate projects progress using approved reporting templates;
•Coordinate schedule of activities related to the assigned project,
•Organize meetings to communicate individuals’ roles, project expectations, and ensure that all project team members have the tools required to perform effectively;
•Other duties as required

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

• Be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• MBA/ MSc student with at least one year of classes completed desirable.
• Areas of studies should be in the field of project management, information technology, business administration, supply chain management, engineering, architecture, logistics or communication.
• Be literate in standard software applications, project management and business results oriented.
• ITIL Service Design and Service Transition knowledge is an asset.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, however one to two (1-2) years of experience in strategy, consulting, technology innovation and finance is desirable.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, or the language of the duty station is an advantage.
