Result of Service

The Secretariat of the Programme is looking into the future of the Programme with a view to develop its strategic direction and in this regard is seeking to obtain an updated and expanded view of what key stakeholders are thinking vis-à-vis its efforts to date across key operational areas. The objectives include:
• To conduct a mapping exercise to better understand gaps, challenges, and opportunities in supporting UN-REDD partner countries in their messaging leading up to the Secretary-General Climate Summit.
• To provide a series of trends in stakeholders’ perceptions of the UN-REDD Programme.
• To identify ways the UN-REDD Programme can effectively communicate with stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN-REDD Programme is the United Nations collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries. The Programme was launched in 2008 and builds on the convening power and expertise of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Forest management remains the most effective climate solution in the short term, and the UN-REDD Programme is well placed to accompany countries in achieving their REDD+ objectives. The Programme launched its second phase in 2016, and for the period 2018-2020 will build on its foundational work carried out from 2008-2017, to support countries achieve their REDD+ objectives, and transition towards the implementation and delivery of results based actions.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree in communications or related social science field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: • A minimum of five years’ work experience in communications, report writing, and communicating the results of comprehensive programmes.
• Highly developed written skills in English, with the ability to originate, solicit, write and edit complex technical data and/or sensitive materials for distribution to target audiences.
• Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an asset.
• Creative writing and ability to communicate information using different visual support to enhance text;
• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and external partners to achieve organizational goals with a strong client service approach.
• Knowledge of UN-REDD stakeholders, REDD+ and/or climate change issues and their communications networks is an asset.
Language: Proficiency in English.
Working knowledge of French desirable.
