Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in Electrical Unit / Engineering Services Section (Sector East Support), United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Naqoura. The incumbent will report to the Chief Electrical/ HVAC Unit or his/her designate.

Responsibilities

Routine Electrical maintenance and repairs:
-Assist with the installation, repair, adjustment and service of electric motors, water pumps, boilers, switchgear and electric control devices. Perform routine maintenance of all types of
electrical service devices, programmable logic controllers (PLC) for heavy machinery and digital solid-state control devices.
-Receive approved electrical work requests and instructions from the Electrical Unit Supervisor, such as panel assembling for water pumps and control heavy machinery using the
PLC of Solar power distribution – off grid – parallel with the grid – batteries bank – new type of solar invertors.
-Periodically inspect and report on electrical work defects for low and high voltage installation in mission facilities such as concrete buildings and prefabs.
New Electrical Installations:
With the approval of the Unit Supervisor, carry out new electrical installations for new facilities in the area of operations:
-Assist the supervising engineer with installation, maintenance and repair of complete power distribution systems including conductors, distribution of main and sub panels for various
sizes of generating sets, earth connections, switchgear, circuit breakers, coaxial communication circuits, fiber-optic systems, alternators, and pole mounted street and security
lightning.
-Carry out technical inspection of incoming electrical materials in the field mission.
-Provides technical assistance with the security machinery (road blocker, barriers, alarm system sliding gate, keypad and remote control system), and maintains helipad equipment
(rotating beacon, HAPI control light, windsock light, taxi light, etc)
Duties may involve covering the 24/7 electrician duty roster.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the unit supervisor

Education

High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical diploma obtained from technical college/trade school or through an accepted national apprenticeship program is required.
Recognized and valid national electricians license is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience with an organization or company in installation, repair and serving of electrical distribution systems, electro motors,
switching gear, industrial electrical installations in a private, commercial or military environment is required.
Valid national driving license is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of
Arabic language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical test which may be followed by competency-based interview.
