Cadre organisationnel

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Governance Affairs Office engages with and guides all relevant stakeholders ranging from Member States, major groups and stakeholders as well as business and the private sector. These internships are in various units of the UN Environment, West Asia Office and cover all the thematic areas of UN Environment work as well as administration.

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students and graduates to obtain a first-hand impression of the day-to-day working environment of the United Nations, learn, develop new skills and gain experience. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work 35-40 hours per week under the supervision of the officer to whom assigned.

Duty station: Manama, Bahrain

Responsabilités

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the office to which the intern is assigned to; the nature of specific projects and the internship duration.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
-Generating, editing, publishing and sharing daily content (text, images or video) that communicate the mandate of UN Environment, the ongoing activities and programmes of the West Asia
Office and other activities, which encourages the general public to follow, engage, or take action.
-Communicating in a professional manner, but also through create and unique social media content which is aligned with the UN Environment leadership and content guidelines.
-Creating social media content that caters to the needs of the UN Environment West Asia Office and its subprograms.
-Creating social media campaigns and calls-to-action that drive public action, engagement, and interest.
-Using a variety of internal and external data sources to research and collect information for the social media platforms.
-Engaging influencers to increase the followership of the UN Environment West Asia Office social media profiles to ensure receiving multiple mentions and retweets in the process.
-Partnering with social media influencers in the West Asia region to promote the mandate and programmes of UN Environment West Asia Office and increase followership in coordination with the communication team members.
-Working within a variety of social media tools to analyze the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and realign social media content based on the information.
-Conducting competitive analysis studies on other similar UN agency accounts.
-Live social media coverage of events and activities as needed.
-Creating new UN Environment West Asia Office pages on social platforms where it is not present in close coordination and consultation with the Public Information Officer.

Formation

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a.Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b.Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c.Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred Area of Study:
Social studies, International Relations, International Development, ICT, Communications, Business or other related field

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in Arabic language is an asset.Knowledge of another UN Language is an advantage.
