i. Substantive inputs to a policy paper on climate change and security in the form of specific sections written on the legislative and institutional framework.
ii. Ad hoc legal inputs, opinion pieces, and technical reviews on the legislative and institutional framework.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The consultant is expected to:

1. Serve as an adviser to UN Environment on matters related to the environment-security nexus.

2. Participate and contribute to briefings and discussions with government officials, NGOs, and a full range of other stakeholders in relation to the environment-security policy debate.

3. Provide expertise on the legal and institutional aspects of international cooperation around the issue of environment and security.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced University degree (preferably PhD) in International Law, International policy analysis, International Relations and Governance.
Experience: A minimum of 15 years of work experience in policy analysis, research in the field of international environmental law, data collection and reporting.
Language: Fluency in written and oral English. Excellent drafting skills.
