Result of Service

Within delegated authority, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

• The incumbent will be responsible for producing visual products for the web or for print, including: branding, posters, banners, illustrations and icons for print and web, social media cards and document layouts. This will require:
o Coordinating with the client to get specifications of the deliverable products.
o Working with colleagues to get the key messages/text.
o Developing the product style/branding, design the layout.
o Collecting and implementing feedback and coordinating with the client on distribution.
o If needed, coordinating with the event organizer or OCHA’s social media team for the distribution.

• Conceptualizing, developing and producing animations for the various events. This will require the following activities:
• Pre-production:
o Coordinating with the event organizer to get the key messages.
o Creating a story board.
o Working with an editor to get the story text.
o Developing the branding/style.
o Searching for the music and sounds and procure it.
o Looking for voice-over candidate.
o Recording the voice-over.

• Production:
o Designing the layout.
o Animating in synch with the voice-over and music.
o Collecting and implementing feedback.
o Exporting in multiple formats for various medium.

• Distribution:
o Coordinating with the event organizer for the distribution.
o Coordinating with OCHA’s social media team for the distribution.

• Finally, the candidate will support development of guidelines and templates for OCHA’s information products. The materials will be distributed and used by our field colleagues for the coming years. This will require the following activities:
o Analyzing OCHA’s current information products and look how to transform the print materials into digital assets
o Evaluating various tools that will enable OCHA to modernize its information products and provide suggestions
o Testing out with field colleagues on the tools
o Developing guidelines and digital templates on how to use the tools
o Developing training materials and provide training

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work for the Strategic Communications Branch of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). S/he will report to the Head of the Design and Multimedia Unit (DMU).

The Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) is OCHA’s communications and public advocacy team supporting headquarters and field operations in public outreach on humanitarian action. The Design and Multimedia Unit (DMU) of the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) leads the development of OCHA’s visual information services and products.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in animation, graphic design or related field.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, animation, multimedia design, visual communication, or related area. Experience with Adobe software, including Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop is required. Experience with development of templates and guidelines on digital tools is a plus.
Language: Fluency in English is required (both oral and written). Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage, especially French or Arabic.
