Result of Service

The post of the Associate on Programme Management will support the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention, under the overall supervision of the Executive Secretary and the daily supervision of Senior Policy Coordination Officer, in the implementation of the Secretariat’s programme of work for the period 2018–2019.

The duration for the contract will be for 126 days over a 6-month period starting at the date of the signature of the contract

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Policy Coordination Officer, the individual contractor will perform the following tasks:

A. Support the organization of the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties, namely:

• Support preparations for the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention (November 2019, Geneva), from both a logistical and substantive perspective, including through the development of working and information documents on activities of various stakeholders on the implementation of the Minamata Convention, and organization of side and special events and exhibitions.
• During the meeting itself, support the plenary and contact group discussions as required as well as on the ground support to side and special events taking place at the meeting. Support the development of relevant communications products.

B. Outreach, capacity building and technical assistance to support the effective implementation of the Minamata Convention:

• Support the appraisal of projects submitted to the second round of applications of the Specific International Programme through programme policy input; preparation of documents to the next face-to-face meeting of the Governing Board and support to the finalization of legal agreements with approved projects.
• Support the implementation of the EU-funded project “Support to the 2019-2020 capacity-building and technical assistance programme of the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in relation to trade and emissions” through programme and policy input as well as needs assessment, research, literature review and analysis of national, sub-regional and regional contexts.
• Develop information and communications materials (including audio-visual formats) relating to the Minamata Convention, its provisions and capacity building and technical assistance to support the effective implementation of the Minamata Convention.

C. Support to other intersessional work:

• Draft presentations on assigned topics/activities and support the conduct of online meetings and training webinars.
• Support the review of completed Minamata Initial Assessments, with a view to informing various intersessional processes.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in international relations, international environmental law, political sciences, economics, business administration, sustainable development or related area.

Fully proficient computer skills, use of web based platforms and relevant softwares e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, internal databases, Internet etc
Experience: No prior work experience required. However, prior experience with the UN System, in particular the Secretariat of multilateral environmental agreements an asset
Language: English is required.
