The position is located in the UN Webcast Unit of the News and Media Division of the Department of Public Information. The UN Webcast is responsible for the live and on-demand video streaming coverage, on UN Web TV website (webtv.un.org) and Social Media platforms, of United Nations meetings and events held at UN Headquarters and at major UN Conferences held worldwide. The selected Intern reports to the Chief of UN Webcast. The internship period is for a minimum of four (4) months to the maximum of six (6) months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five (5) days per week (35 hours).
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief of UN Webcast and/or senior colleagues, the intern will assist with the daily live and on-demand webcast coverage of United Nations meetings and events on UN Web TV website (webtv.un.org). The candidate will be trained to retrieve and edit videos from a Media Asset Management System (MAMS) and to use a cloud video platform to upload videos along with relevant metadata for publishing on UN Web TV website. The intern may also assist with live and on-demand streaming on Social Media accounts, including the UN Youtube channel, Facebook (UNWebTV) and Twitter (UNWebTV) as well as with other tasks.

Applicants must be enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, a graduate degree programme in broadcast journalism, communication, media studies, information technology, political science, international relations, analytics or related area.
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Public Information, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in broadcast journalism, communication, media studies, information technology, political science, international relations, analytics or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in broadcast journalism, communication, media studies, information technology, political science, international relations, analytics or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree in broadcast journalism, communication, media studies, information technology, political science, international relations, analytics or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme. However, they are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their UN professional history profile (PHP). For this internship, familiarity with video editing is desired.
For this internship, fluency in English is a must. Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and/or Spanish) is desirable.
