Duties and Responsibilities

The UN-REDD Programme is the UN collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries. The Programme was launched in 2008 and builds on the convening power and expertise of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Forest management remains the most effective climate solution in the short term, and the UN-REDD Programme is well placed to accompany actors in achieving their REDD+ objectives. The Programme launched its second phase in 2016, and for the period 2018-2020 will build on its foundational work carried out from 2008-2017, to support countries achieve their REDD+ objectives, and transition towards the implementation and delivery of results-based actions. As the existing Programme runs until 2020, and considering there remains strong demand from countries to access the Programme, UN-REDD is in the process of developing its post-2020 strategy.

As part of this process, the Programme has the need for a consultant to support the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in developing a strategic lessons learned think piece to inform the design of the next phase of the UN-REDD Partnership beyond 2020 and to support its donor engagement strategy and achievement of the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
