Result of Service

Support provided to the coordination of strategic activities under the purview of the Head of the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in the context of catalyzing and leveraging the UN convening power to contribute to ambitious outcomes on Nature and Forests during the course of “Nature Super Year 2020”. Specifically:

• Design a strategic process of amplification and engagement on NBS for 2020 with all key stakeholders;
• Design and support the facilitation of the first high level meeting of the NBS coalition at COP25 in Madrid in December 2019;
• Support the planning of the key strategic milestones for 2020

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Climate Action Summit convened by UN Secretary-General on 23 September 2019 has mobilized political commitment to raise ambition and accelerate implementation of climate action in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Commitments on Nature Based Solutions (NBS) was a key outcome of the Summit and a Manifesto for Nature Based Solutions was produced. As such there is an important follow-up process to continue to grow the movement for nature and deliver tangible game changes outcome during the course of 2020. As part of this process, the Programme has the need for a consultant to support the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in preparation for the milestone events. The objectives include:
• Support the design process and roadmap for the 2019 Secretary General Climate Summit Nature Based Climate Solution outcomes;
• Support coordination of multi-stakeholder process and pursue opportunities for leveraging networks and partnerships;
• Develop knowledge management and communication materials as needed for internal and external stakeholders;
• Prepare a variety of technical materials including briefings, supporting materials, concept notes, and background documents.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental field of studies or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
• A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in designing, instigating and shaping the implementation of major strategic change programmes in global and national organisations.
• Experience of working on long-term strategic development in commercial, governmental, not-for-profit organisations or international organizations.
• Expertise in working with system approaches
• Experience drafting reports, presentations and other products.
Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
