Org. Setting and Reporting

The internship position is with the UN Library at Geneva in the Digital Services team, in support of the monitoring and evaluation activities.

The internship will last a maximum of 6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five (5) days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the Section.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

-Support the implementation of the Library’s monitoring and evaluation strategy for its core business activities (Library, Archives, Events, Knowledge and Learning Commons).
-Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, processing, analysis, evaluation and dissemination of data.
-Support the preparation of surveys and assist in carrying out user interviews and online surveys.
-Assist in developing, implementing and managing data visualization projects, including metrics, dashboards and visualizations for users.
-Help develop technical documentation, guidance on tools and procedures on data collection and data visualization tools.
-Assists in training for users on data collection and data visualization tools.
-Research, identify, and test tools and resources to support the monitoring and evaluation strategy.
-Performs other duties as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
-Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Information and Technology Sciences will be an advantage; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
It can be an advantage if you have interests, skills and knowledge in the areas below:
-Knowledge, skills, abilities in analytics, information management, visualization, and /or survey design
-Knowledge, skills abilities in of data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods
-Knowledge, skills, abilities in analytics tools (PowerBI, Qlik)
-Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, the field of study should be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for is required.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
