Support provided to the coordination of strategic activities under the purview of the Head of the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in the context of catalyzing and leveraging the UN convening power to contribute to ambitious outcomes on Nature and Forests during the course of “Nature Super Year 2020”. Specifically:
• positioning the Nature-based Solutions (NBS) action agenda
• supporting NBS as a test model in joint UN programming and strengthening the relation with EU delegations applying foreseen consequences of EU post-2020 budget
• integrating NBS into the Green Deal and vice-versa
• support in resource mobilization
• support the strengthening of the policy-programmatic interface
• advocacy with European Parliament and EU National Parliaments
• a variety of communications products
The consultant will be based in the UNEP office in Brussels.
Up to 120 work days to start immediately until 31 July 2020, with the possibility of extension
The UN Climate Action Summit convened by UN Secretary-General on 23 September 2019 has mobilized political commitment to raise ambition and accelerate implementation of climate action in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Commitments on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) were a key outcome of the Summit and a Manifesto for Nature Based Solutions was produced. As such there is an important follow-up process to continue to grow the movement for nature and deliver tangible game changes outcome during the course of 2020. As part of this process, the Programme has the need for a consultant to support the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in preparation for the milestone events. The objectives include:
• Support the design process and roadmap for the 2019 Secretary General Climate Summit Nature-Based Climate Solution outcomes;
• Support coordination of multi-stakeholder process and pursue opportunities for leveraging networks and partnerships;
• Develop knowledge management and communication materials as needed for internal and external stakeholders;
• Prepare a variety of technical materials including briefings, supporting materials, concept notes, and background documents.
Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in development or environmental field of studies or related area
Experience: • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the forest agenda, food-water-energy nexus
• Demonstrated knowledge of the nature agenda and the multilateral system
• Experience in drafting reports, presentations and other products
Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required; Working knowledge of French is an advantage
