Cadre organisationnel

This profile is for the sole purpose of the Internship Programme of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development in Geneva. There should be no expectation of employment within the UN after an internship. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above carrying international recruitment status in the Secretariat for a period of six months following the end of their internship. UN interns must have a valid visa.

This position is located in the National Investment Policies Section, Division of Investment and Enterprise. The Internship Programme is unpaid and full-time, i.e. an intern is expected to work five days per week (9.00 am to 5.00 pm). The period of this internship will be from 1st. October to 31st March 2015.

Responsabilités

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

The ICT Policy Section carries out several research and technical assistance activities, as well as supports policy dialogue in the field of ICTs, e-commerce and the digital economy, for developing countries. The intern will be involved in projects and tasks related to the organization of the e-Commerce Week 2020 to be held in Geneva (27 April-1st May 2020) as well as in several technical assistance Programmes such as the E-Commerce and Law Reform Programme and the eTrade Readiness Assessment Programme.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
a) eCommerce Week: Assist with the drafting of background and concept notes and the organization of the high-level track managed by the ICT policy Section; contribute to the information gatering efforts for the conference app and support the community management in this respect
b) Contribute to the update of the cyberlaw database; this will involve desk research as well as the sending of questionnaires to the Permanent Missions in Geneva;
c) Assist in the activities related to the E-Commerce and Law Reform Programme and eTrade Readiness Assessment Programme.

Formation

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme. Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
