Duties and Responsibilities

This post is located within the ICT Section (ICTS), Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The contractor reports directly to the Team Leader, Applications Support and Development unit, and will be under the overall supervision of the Chief, ICTS

• Create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collateral;
• Develop front end for websites using UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages and tools;
• interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications;
• analyze and advise on innovative web-based solutions;
• prepare technical and user documentation for deployed website, application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations;
• Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified;
• provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment;
• organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases;
• support digitization, visualization and development of info graphics for various products.
trains staff on completed systems/applications.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Skills required:
• Experience and working in a multi-developer environment; extensive knowledge of web development (HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks)
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop and Illustrator
• Experience with responsive design
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with cross browser web development for IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome
• Experience with Mobile design
Knowledge of the following skills will be an added advantage:
• Content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress modules and taxonomies.
• Experience with version control (GIT),
• Knowledge in designing multilingual/localized websites
Academic Qualifications: Bachelor Degree
Experience: • Minimum 4 years’ experience in web design/development
• Demonstrated history of working as full-time web designer/developer.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an advantage.
