The internship position is located in the Staffing Diversity and Outreach Section within the Office of Human Resources (OHR) of Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The Staffing Diversity and Outreach Section plays a vital role in bringing staff of high caliber into the Organization. It develops strategies and initiatives aimed at building a diverse workforce across the Organization and coordinates Organization-wide efforts to increase geographical and regional diversity across all departments, offices and missions. It supports the Secretary-General’s system-wide strategy on gender parity and promotes access to opportunities by persons with disabilities by undertaking targeted outreach campaigns to draw upon the broadest pool of candidates for Secretariat positions. The integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools—such as Facebook, Twitter, Weibo and WeChat—forms a critical component of the section’s communications strategies.

We are seeking an energetic, responsible intern to join the Organization. The OHR internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension to no longer than six months, depending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office where they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking a passionate young person who is an innovative doer and thinker and interested in making a difference for a better world.
Within delegated authority, the HR/Communications intern may be responsible for one or more areas of the following duties:

Human Resources
•Assists with planning and organization of conferences and other outreach activities
•Participates in planning and implementing special events organized by the Outreach unit (information sessions, career development forums, university visits, etc.) as necessary.
•Provides logistic support for the organization of public events, guided tours and briefings
•Conducts internet research on thematic issues
•Maintains databases
•Assists with development and implementation of surveys
•Provides general office support (processing, drafting and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings, etc.)
•Takes on other special projects as assigned.

Public Information/Communications
•Drafts and schedules content for the UN Careers social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Weibo, etc.
•Identifies, researches, drafts and edits content (text, photos, documents and multimedia) for online publication (website and social media)
•Manages engagement with the UN Careers audience on Facebook; monitors and reports risks to supervisor.
•Accompanies Outreach unit team members and supervisor to meetings.
•Assists with live coverage at global events that take place in New York (Facebook Live, etc.).
•Assists with data visualization through graphs and maps.
•Assists with drafting reports based on quantitative research and analysis.
•Takes on other special projects as assigned.

UX design:
•Understand specifications of a career webpage and its user psychology
•Create personas through user research and data
•Define the right interaction model and evaluate its success
•Find creative ways to solve UX problems (e.g. usability, findability)
•Work with developers and graphic designers to implement attractive designs
•Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends

Employer Branding
•Identify what, exactly, about the Organization makes it attractive to candidates;
•Highlight key differentiators that set the company apart from other institutions;
•Leverage candidate-facing communications, social media, and video to convey the corporate culture and employee experience;
•Develop and project the employee value proposition of the Organization;
•Partner with Human Resources practitioners and hiring managers to develop sourcing strategies to meet current and future hiring needs, as well as diversity targets.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position fluency in English is required, knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
