Result of Service

The successful candidates will be placed on a roster to be assigned on design projects as demand emerges. The objective is to develop concepts and process various types of material to be disseminated in a timely and effective manner.

Expected duration

The JO needs to be announced for one year for rostering purposes.

Duties and Responsibilities

1 - Performs desktop publishing to produce a variety of print material and publications, using relevant computer systems and software applications.
2 - Assists in the layout and preparation of information materials.
3 - Reviews and/or edit scripts and story-lines to understand, create and edit animations as per requirements and prepare presentations with raw designs to clients, using relevant software and techniques.
4 - Creates models, drawings and illustrations by hand or electronically.
5 - Develops storyboards for the initial stages of production, using creativity and artistic techniques to tell a story or provide information in visual form.
6 - Joins images with background graphics and special effects and ensures synchronization of frames and audio.
7 - Assists with scheduling of various components of the production process, e.g. copy and proofreading, graphics, translation services, typesetting, printing, etc.).
8 - Liaises with relevant parties on job specifications and approval of mechanicals for dispatch, etc.
9 - Tracks and monitors production flow to ensure that deadlines are met.
10 - Performs other related work as required., including drawing paintings, computer animation, info-graphic and printmaking design, books illustrations, creative writing, technical art, installations and photography.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. A first level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in fine arts or graphic arts is desirable. Knowledge of 2D/3D, computer-generated animation, CGI software (Photoshop, 3ds Max), Adobe Suite (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects) is desirable.

Experience: At least 3 years experience in publications production, including desktop publishing, graphic design and layout, or related area is required. Experience in drawing, computer animation, infographic and printmaking design, books illustrations, art installation and photography or related area is desirable.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
