To conduct substantive research, based on primary and secondary sources, on governance's themes related to the future of Syria after the conflict.

The assignment will start from the signature date of the contract until 31 December 2020.
Under the supervision of Governance Officer of the National Agenda for Syria Phase II, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Contribute to policy-oriented research on selected governance issues pertinent to Syria post-conflict and draft resulting reports
- Conduct primary and secondary research on assigned topics using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Prepare comprehensive written reviews and analytical summaries of Arabic and English literature on specific themes;
- Provide logistical and substantive backstopping to preparing background documents, briefs, and presentations, as well as workshop reports;
- Coordinate research and synthesizes data related to three reports and technical dialogues.
- Contribute to the drafting, editing and finalization of written outputs
- Interpret and apply results of analytical and quantitative work to analysis of governance prospects and policies.
- Ensure an adequate archive of all sources and outputs in both hard and soft copies.
- Take thorough notes during discussions in focus group, consultation series and interviews.
- Provide substantive assistance in the preparation for meetings
- Assist with other tasks related to governance issues as required.
Skills: Good communication and teamwork skills are required.
Previous experience in conducting research on Syria is desirable.
Knowledge of post-conflict governance policy debates and literature is desirable.
Previous experience and knowledge of United Nations Rules and Procedures.
Academic Qualifications: BA in political science, social sciences, development issues, or any other closely related field is required. An advanced university degree in these fields is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a related area is required.
Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.
