Through these services the Initiative will be able to engage a broad range of financial institutions, including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and multi-lateral development banks and agencies – in a constructive dialogue about the nexus between economic development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the financial sector. The services will also help promote the full integration of climate considerations into all aspects of the financial sector’s operations and services and help foster private sector investment in the transition to a low-carbon, climate resilient economy. Finally, the services will help the Initiative to broaden its outreach both within UNEP / UN and external to banks, insurers and investors, governments, regulators, private sector and multi-stakeholders.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic public-private partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 220 financial institutions, which are signatories to the UNEP FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partners and organisations, to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its working groups and regional activities, comprehensive work programme, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution strategies and operations.
UNEP FI needs a consultant to work on all their communications and events requirements, including digital, web based, paper and currently does not have the relavent professional expertise internally to carry out the stated tasks as shown below.
The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to Head of Signatory Relations, Programme Management Officer, UNEP FI. The consultant will with closely with colleagues in the communications team and with the Ecosystems team.
In line with the work programme delivered during the UNEP FI Annual General Meetings and under the direct supervision of UNEP FI Signatory Relations Programme Management working in close coordination with the Events & Outreach and the Communications Teams, the consultant will carry out the following project tasks as shown below:
• Support UNEP FI’s outreach and communications to UNEP FI’s membership and the wider finance industry via online communications, social media, email campaigns etc.
• Support the organisation and logistics of UNEP FI’s events and webinars.
The consultant will provide assistance in the following project/tasks for UNEP FI’s Communications work:
• With the planning and delivery of the UNEP FI virtual Global Roundtable in October 2020, including speaker invitations, technology platform management, communications campaigns and registration management.
• With the weekly planning of webinars and online training on topics including Ecosystems, blue economy, climate finance, positive impact finance, EU regulation, banking, investment and investment.
• Provide technical assistance during live and test webinars to train speakers on the use of WebEx, GotoWebinar and BrightTalk in Q2 and Q3.
• With outreach to media on key projects and events.
• Update and assist management of UNEP FI’s website and social media with particular emphasis on content for ecosystems, Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Initiative, UNEP FI Global Roundtable and webinars.
• With the daily management, scheduling and content production (copywriting, visual identity, videos, infographics, articles) for four social media channels (Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Youtube) in coordination with communications colleagues and other FI secretariat colleagues.
• With the production of monthly newsletters for UNEP FI’s members and ad hoc mailings advertising events
• With production of web, social media and webinar participation analysis on a monthly basis.
• With management of UNEP FI’s members-only LinkedIn group.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to updates website using Wordpress. and; ability to cope with juggling multiple tasks across diverse projects in an organized and timely manner; attention to detail. Knowledge of social media and virtual communications channels is desirable, as is experience of writing copy for online audiences. The consultant is expected to work support colleagues in implementing communications strategies and work plans. The consultant should have the ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural and geographically dispersed environment across teams. A hands-on, pragmatic approach is desirable.
Academic Qualifications: A University degree in required in communications, marketing, international relations, business, event management, public relations or a related field.
Experience: At least two years working experience is required in PR, communications, marketing and /or events. Up-to-date proficiency with communications best practices, including social media. Experience in using webinar and online meeting platforms, event coordination and website updates.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.
