This post is located within the ICT Section (ICTS), Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The Web Designer reports directly to the Team Leader, Applications Support and Development unit, and will be under the overall supervision of the Chief, ICTS.
The Web Designer will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
1. Create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collaterals;
2. develop frontend for websites using UN established standards for web development, IT Technologies, programming languages and tools;
3. Interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications;
4. Analyze and advise on innovative web-based solutions;
5. Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed website, application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations;
6. Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified;
7. Provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment;
8. Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test cases;
9. Support digitization, visualization and development of infographics for various products;
10. Trains staff on completed web products;
11. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Skills: Mandatory skills:
1. Experience and working in a multi-developer environment; extensive knowledge of web development (HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks)
2. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop and Illustrator
3. Experience with responsive design
4. extensive knowledge of and experience with cross browser web development for IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome
5. Digital Design Degree (B.S. in graphic design, Information Systems or any other related degree)
6. Experience with Mobile design
Knowledge the following skills will be an added advantage:
1. Content management systems such as Drupal or Wordpress modules and taxonomies.
2. Experience with version control
3. Knowledge in designing multilingual/localised websites
Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in digital and Web design tools and technologies or equivalent will be required.
Experience: • Minimum 4 years’ experience in web design/development
• Demonstrated history of working in the computer software industry as a full-time web designer.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an advantage.
