Duties and Responsibilities

This post is located within the ICT Section (ICTS), Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The Software Developer reports directly to the Team Leader, Applications Support and Development unit, and will be under the overall supervision of the Chief, ICTS.

The Information Technology Assistant will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:

1. Analysis, design and development of new software applications as per the UN ICT strategy and ESCWA´s needs;
2. Develops detailed system and other functional specifications and user documentation;
3. maintains, upgrades or enhances existing user systems and integration of many interrelated systems and program elements;
4. Support in data visualization and data analytics (Business Intelligence) initiatives;
5. Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases; assists users in acceptance testing;
6. Develops training materials, technical and user manuals;
7. Trains staff on completed systems/applications;
8. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Mandatory skills:
HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JQuery or similar scripting languages
Web development using ASP.NET (C# or VB.Net);
Client / server applications development using (C# or VB.net);
Good knowledge of databases and scripting(Pl/SQL) with SQL Server 2008 or higher.

Knowledge the following skills will be an added advantage:
Knowledge of IIS, GIT;
Version control tools;
Dashboarding tools such as PowerBI or Tableau;
Data visualisation libraries and packages such as R, D3.js, Python etc;
Web Mapping design tools.
Xamarin for mobile development;
Academic Qualifications: Computer Science Degree (B.S. in computer science / information systems, or related field);
Experience: • Minimum 4 years’ experience in software development.
• Demonstrated history of working in the computer software industry as a full time developer.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an advantage.
