Cadre organisationnel

Organizational Settings and Reporting

The duration of an ESCWA internship is normally two months on a full time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the respective Division.

Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.

ESCWA accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon awarding an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service.

This internship is located within the ESCWA Centre for Women of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. The intern reports directly to the Director of the Centre.

Responsabilités

The intern will be supporting the work of the Centre substantively and administratively and will be responsible for carrying out the following:
- Assist in the organization of ECW conferences and meetings;
- Assist in all research-related tasks, particularly in the form of literature searches, processing/compilation of data, data analysis, technical writing, report editing and proofreading;
- Create based on a set criteria a comprehensive thematic-based list (economic, social, political, legal, media, etc) of existing gender-related literature, studies and research;
- Develop presentation materials, report summaries & factsheets (written, tabular and visual materials) as requested;
- Assist in the preparation, design & implementation of research undertakings (qualitative and quantitative) relevant to the work assignments;
- Conducting additional ad hoc assignments as requested.

Formation

The following criteria are used to determine eligibility for the ESCWA Internship Programme:

1 - Applicants are enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship;
2 - Applicants pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree;
3 - The area of study of the prospective intern is related to the functional areas of ESCWA’s programme of work and administration.

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Arabic is also a working language of ESCWA. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
