Duties and Responsibilities

This is a REMOTE position in the DPPA-DPO Information Management Unit, Department of Peace Operations (DPO), and Department of Peacebuilding and Political Affairs (DPPA), in coordination with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).

The Data Analytics Front-end Developer will play a technical role in developing tools and visualizations within the Analytics Toolkit to support strategic decision making in DPPA-DPO.

The team is looking for a Front-end Developer to work on an exciting project to develop the foundations of an innovative data platform. You will work in a cross-functional team that includes developers, data analysts, and a UI/UX expert under the overall supervision of the Chief, DPPA-DPO Information Management Unit.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will contribute to an exciting new project that will allow for easy sharing of data across the Peace and Security Pillar of the United Nations.

The incumbent will be responsible for the front-end development of a new data-sharing platform that connects Cloud-based data to a user-centric tool.

The responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:
- Lead the systems analysis, design, development, and implementation
- Work collaboratively and iteratively through design and development to deliver a fully functional application that meets business goals
- Build, test, and deploy public and internal facing web application using appropriate technology
- Prepare technical and user documentation 
- Ensures data security and integrity

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications:

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems / Technology, Human-computer Interaction, User interface design, or related field. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


Experience:

Required experience:
Three to five years of professional experience are required in the following areas :
• JavaScript/ES6+, HTML and CSS
• Node.js and Express application design and development
• Front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue)
• Data visualization libraries (e.g. D3.js)
• Web content management frameworks (e.g. Drupal)
• Web application deployment on Cloud (e.g. Azure)
• Relational databases querying and connectivity
• Knowledge and experience of software development life cycle and lean/agile development methodologies
• Version control

Desired experience:

• Experience of working on data analysis and visualization web applications
• Experience with cloud (ideally Azure) architecture and deployment

Language:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of any of the other UN official languages is desirable.
