The Consultant will be expected to deliver agreed-upon outputs and services within a period of 6 months starting January 2021 during which the consultant will work for 50 days.
The Senior Officials of the Environment Management Group have requested its Consultative Process on Advancing Environmental and Social Sustainability in the United Nations System to finalise Phase II of the Strategy for Sustainability Management in the UN System 2020-2030. The EMG Secretariat is seeking a consultant to support the work of the interagency Sustainability Strategy Task Team in this undertaking.
Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree in the area of sustainable development, sustainability management, corporate social responsibility, strategic planning or business administration. In case of more experienced candidates in the relevant area, the academic requirements could be reduced.
Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience in internal sustainability matters and/or strategy development in the area of sustainable development. Experience of working with the United Nations is required. Experience of working with the UN internal sustainability or accountability frameworks is desirable.
Language: For the advertised post, fluency in oral and written English is an absolute requirement. Knowledge other UN languages would be an additional advantage.
Skills: Demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of sustainability management frameworks, sustainability mainstreaming and strategy development. Demonstrate good knowledge of reporting and measurement standards. Knowledge of relevant accountability frameworks such as the UN SWAP for Mainstreaming Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women is an advantage.
Ability to take initiative, facilitate multi-stakeholder discussions and find solutions to complex problems. Proven ability to conduct independent research and analysis and draft reports. Excellent communications and inter-personal skills.
The candidate should have the ability to deliver outputs and work under pressure to meet the deadlines mentioned in this Terms of Reference.
