Duties and Responsibilities

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was convened by the United Nations Secretary-General in 2006 as a Forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on public policy issues related to Internet governance, such as the Internet’s sustainability, robustness, security, stability, and development. The IGF is funded through donations from various stakeholder groups and administered by the Division for Public ‎Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). All contributions are administered and accounted for in accordance with United Nations Financial Rules and Regulations and other applicable directives, procedures and practices. Fundraising is an integral part of the IGF, as its Secretariat, intersessional work, and capacity building activities rely of donations to exist.

Fundraising requires a continuous and comprehensive approach with a long-term strategy. The purpose of this consultant role is to put in place a long-term strategy with short-term actionable items. The main aspects of fundraising require continuous communication with existing donors, and to create communications channels with potential new donors to bring the IGF Main Grant funding levels to desired levels for long term sustainability. For that reason, the proposed consultant is expected to work closely with DPIDG and IGF Secretariat, in order to better understand the strategic objectives of the IGF and to better introduce the IGF and all its activities/outcomes to potential new donors.
