Consultant will be issued a contract with an established rate and for the period through to 31 December 2021 for work on an "as required" basis. Extensions of contracts are subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Prior to contract issuance, identified candidates may be asked to undergo assessment.

Organizational Setting and Reporting:
This is a homebased consultancy position with the International Seabed Authority (ISA), headquartered in Jamaica. The consultant is required to assist in the editing of a range of technical publications and reports under the general supervision of the Communications Specialist.
Responsibilities: The Proof-reader will be responsible for the following duties:
• Copy-edits or edits, prior to printing manuscripts to verify grammar, syntax, accuracy, clarity, punctuation, spelling and conformity with established UN style.
• Copy reviews jobs to verify quality manuscript.
• Assures continuity of style in serially produced publications.
• Makes corrections of spelling, grammar, style, typography or substantive errors.
• Reads page proofs against original manuscript to ensure printed version is a true transcription of the text supplied for printing.
• Makes corrections on proofs.
• Checks compliance with original typographic specifications.
• Checks pagination, ISBN numbers, and correlation of table of contents with listed items in text.
• Completes cross-references within text and footnotes.
• Reads amended proofs against previous proofs and incorporates additional editorial alterations as required.
Education: A first level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in proof-reading, editing or related area.
Knowledge of UN style and/or legal terminology desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the ISA Secretariat. For the post
advertised excellent command of English is required. Knowledge of another official UN
language is an asset.
