2 Multiple technical support pieces that enable the Alliance to deliver on its implementation plan for 2021, including organizing of working groups, Alliance documentation, and research pieces

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic public-private partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 350 financial institutions, which are signatories to the UNEP FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partners and organisations, to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance.
In September 2019, at the Secretary General’s Climate Action Summit the United Nations-Convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance was launched. This international collaboration of asset owners was convened by UNEP in order to respond to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Paris Agreement Article 2.1.c and enable financial flows to support the transition to net-zero CO2 emissions economies by 2050.
UNEP FI, together with the Principles for Responsible Investment, has been mandated to serve as Secretariat for the Alliance. The Alliance consists of the Strategic Advisory Group of asset owners at CEO-level, Working-level Advisory Group, Scientific and Strategic Advisory Body (SSAB) and work tracks - as required - to implement the Alliance commitment.
UNEP FI currently does not have the expertise nor bandwidth in-house to undertake the above-mentioned tasks, therefore it requires the assistance of a consultant
The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the Climate Change, Programme Officer UNEP FI.
Outputs of services:
1. Working group support; Coordination of working groups under MRV and Finance tracks to support leads of these tracks in concrete development of deliverables
2. Communications Support; including regular group conference calls, webinars with all members and principals, calls between the UNEP FI Secretariat and the Alliance
3. Data and contact list support; support the management of company carbon data consolidation and contact lists for Alliance
4. Support research on green bonds, alignment methodologies for input into Alliance Financing Strategy and Alliance Protocol
5. Develop research deck presentations for informational sharing purposes, as well as coordinate knowledge management systems
6. Support meetings as needed, with the representatives of the Alliance Board, including their preparation, documentation, and the coordination of immediate follow-up tasks as needed
Specific tasks and responsibilities - UNEP FI requires a Consultant to:
• Undertake the content preparation of requested input to inform Quarterly Principal Calls, Monthly Track Calls, and Bi-Weekly Working Group Calls.
• Support the development of research pieces and prepare the dissemination through the Alliance.
• Coordinate the knowledge management and document repository systems for the Alliance.
• Support communications dissemination of agreed guidance on political, technical and structural matters facing the Alliance.
• Support management in overall secretariat strategy and execution for the 7 overall work tracks.
• Manage data systems for company carbon metrics tracking.
Skills: The consultant should have a proven track record in project management support involving different stakeholder types, particularly in developing countries, and particularly in the investment industry. S/he should also have a deep understanding of climate change related and climate financial topics.
Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s University degree is required in economics, finance, environmental studies, international relations, business administration or related fields.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience is required in international organisations, the financial services sector, private sector or NGOs examining the intersection between sustainable development - particularly climate change - infrastructure, policy and financial risk & opportunity.
Language: English is the working language of UNEP FI. English is mandatory for this consultancy. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
