The team operates via the Issue management Group on Environmental Sustainability management (hereafter IMG Network) of over 50 UN entities that meet regularly to exchange best practices, develop harmonized methodologies and decide jointly on how to progress towards the UN corporate environmental sustainability goals. As observers also a number of international organisations contribute to the life of the network. This active network requires regular support, facilitation of the traffic of information, and technical assistance on emission reduction strategies.

The UNEP SUN team has an ambitious programme in 2021 to assist IMG network members in the implementation of emissions reduction strategies in UN organisations. This assistance covers aspects of the UN 2020-2030 Sustainability Strategy (environmental sustainability in the area of management) such as Environmental Management Systems, biodiversity, fleet management, and staff awareness and includes sometimes other aspects that may emerge from the network’s discussions.

The SUN team needs finally project management support concretised via the organization of team meeting, provision of meeting minutes, project reports, or preparation of inputs for various events or interagency discussions. In particular, in spring summer 2021, the SUN team needs assistance in the initial development of its 2022-2026 SUN project document which has to be drafted in close consultation with UNEP and UN system colleagues to ensure UNEP SUN is able to perform it role of UN coordinator and technical support unit for the UN 2020-2030 Sustainability Strategy goals.

These and other ad hoc initiatives require the regular support of a consultant to assist the SUN team with their programme of work.
