The Transport Division/Transport Policy and Development Section internship is for 2-6 months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or section to which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Research on the availability of road safety, sustainable transport, smart and green transport for the ESCAP member countries;
- An important part of the assignment will be to identify and collect information related to road safety, sustainable transport, smart and green transport from primary and secondary sources required for the study and select an appropriate methodology;
- Coordinate and liaise, as necessary, with Transport Division staff of ESCAP, to identify key issues;
- Review, analyze and compile the collected data and information, and prepare a report including the findings and conclusions, incorporating appropriate tables, graphs, charts with references;
- Prepare infographics using computer software.
- Prepare presentations on the work or the findings and outcomes of the internship including lessons learned to the Division's staff, if necessary.
The intern may also be asked to assist in the day-to-day work of the Division if required. She/he is expected to familiarize him/herself, to a limited extent, with administrative work of the Division and other tasks that are typical of UN organizations.

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
