Result of Service

Ultimate result of services: Copy-edited versions of the following draft documents:
• Disruptive Transitions paper
• Cicero IAMs paper
• Climate Risk Applications paper

Objectives, output expectations and performance indicators:
• Objectives: to publish the reports from UNEP FI’s pilot projects on TCFD adoption in highest possible quality of text & wording
• Output expectations: fully reviewed and copy-edited reports from the project as enumerated above
• Performance indicators: satisfaction of the readability of the reports, among project team members at UNEP FI, and more broadly among the financial institutions involved in the project. Any feedback to that effect

Specific tasks and responsibilities:
1st deliverable – March 2021 - Submission of reviewed, copy-edited versions of the reports listed above.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 300 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future.

As part of its work-programme on climate change UNEP FI is working with close to 40 financial institutions in the adoption of the recommendations of the Task Force for Climate-related Disclosures (TCFD). This project is producing and will shortly issue a number of reports and outcomes, and now required a professional editor to review and copy-edit the corresponding draft documents.

The consultant/individual contractor will report to the Programme Officer and Climate Change team lead at UNEP FI, under the overall responsibilities of the Head of UNEP FI.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Ability to adhere to brand guidelines. Strong knowledge of print media, digital media, branding and international design. Excellent editing skills, planning and time management skills. Strong ability to prioritize and deliver across multiple projects while maintaining quality and attention to detail. Ability to use appropriate design/communication methods for the subject and audience is desirable.

Academic Qualifications: First level university degree in communications, editing, graphic arts, marketing design, administration, business management or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, with related qualifications.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in the field of editing – design of publications, websites, print or digital materials is required.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required.
