Result of Service

Through these services the Initiative will be able to engage a broad range of financial institutions, including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and multi-lateral development banks and agencies – in a constructive dialogue about the nexus between economic development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the financial sector. The services will also help promote the full integration of climate considerations into all aspects of the financial sector’s operations and services and help foster private sector investment in the transition to a low-carbon, climate resilient economy. Finally, the services will help the Initiative to broaden its outreach both within UNEP / UN and external to banks, insurers and investors, governments, regulators, private sector and multi-stakeholders.

The duration of the contract would be for 12 Months (Part-Time).

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic public-private partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 350 financial institutions, which are signatories to the UNEP FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partners and organizations, to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its working groups and regional activities, comprehensive work programme, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realize the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution strategies and operations.

UNEP FI needs a consultant to work on their events and related communications requirements, including virtual events and webinars, and currently does not have the relevant professional expertise internally to carry out the stated tasks as shown below.

In line with the work programme delivered during the UNEP FI Annual General Meetings and under the direct supervision of UNEP FI Programme Management Officer Liesel van Ast, working in close coordination with Events & Outreach Analyst Mustafa Chaudhry, the consultant will carry out the following project tasks:

• Support the organization and logistics of UNEP FI’s Regional Roundtables and webinars in 2021.
• Support UNEP FI’s events and communications to UNEP FI’s membership and the wider finance industry via online events, communications, social media, email campaigns etc.

The consultant will provide assistance in the following project/tasks for UNEP FI’s Event and Communications work:

• Assist with the planning and delivery of UNEP FI’s Regional Roundtables and webinars in 2021/2022.
• Coordinate event registrations speakers, invitations, briefs and related content
• Coordinate event programme with UNEP FI secretariat
• Provide technical assistance on event platforms such as BrightTalk and WebEx during live and test webinars and events
• Assist with outreach to media on key projects and events
• Update and assist management of UNEP FI’s website with particular emphasis on content for events and webinars
• Assist with the management and production of content for social media channels in coordination with communications colleagues and other UNEP FI secretariat
• Assist with the production of ad hoc mailings advertising events
• Assist with production of web and social media analysis

Outputs and Deliverables:
• Assist with delivery of 5 Regional Roundtables and biweekly webinars in 2021.

- North America Early October
- Europe Early November
• Assist with and implement communications campaigns around UNEP FI’s events and webinars in 2021/2022.
• Gather statistics and feedback after each event and webinar

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the Programme Management Officer. The consultant will with closely with colleagues in communications, digital and events.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to organize engaging webinars and events; ability to cope with juggling multiple tasks across diverse projects in an organized and timely manner; attention to detail. Knowledge of social media and virtual communications channels is desirable, as is experience of writing copy for online audiences. The consultant is expected to support the secretariat in delivering engaging events and implementing related communications strategies. The consultant should have the ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural and geographically dispersed environment across teams. A hands-on, pragmatic approach is desirable.

Academic Qualifications: A University degree in communications, marketing, international relations, business, event management, administration, public relations or a related field.

Experience: At least two years working experience in events, communications and/or marketing Up-to-date proficiency with best practices in webinar and virtual event organisation, including communications. Experience in social media and communications platforms highly desirable.

Language: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
