The contract will take place between 1 April and 30 June 2021.

The assignment is PART TIME, the payments will be made based on deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

Each UN organization has committed since 2013 to the implementation of an environmental management system. This work is coordinated by UNEP via the Sustainable United Nations facility (SUN) and is delivered with the help of the interagency network of sustainability focal points (Issue Management Group on Environmental Sustainability Management-IMG).
The Sustainable United Nations supports the development and implementation of such committments via Help Desk services and through a website that serves the UN system in implementing environmental management systems (www.emstoolkit.org ) –including instructions, templates and examples.

The website needs regular care including updates and minor changes to be up to date and well-adapted to focal points needs: a support function is necessary to secure its proper functioning (debugging, improvement based on user’s feedback) and minor design developments to facilitate for UN organisations in understanding how to navigate through the website and how to make the best of its facilities.

The Sustainable UN currently does not have the relevant expertise nor team capacity to carry out the stated tasks.
A consultant is therefore sought to assist the team in the upkeep and development of the EMS toolkit. The consultant will be home-based.

Tasks:

a. Delivery of technical support, debugging
b. Draft List of technical support, debugging services delivered
c. Development of additional functionalities to improve the usage of the emstoolkit.org
d. Report on additional functionalities operated in the emstoolkit.org.
e. Present the draft instructions on the editing and use of the toolkit for future administrators and users in the April interagency meeting organized by SUN and collect feedback
f. Deliver Final Instructions on the editing and use of the toolkit for future administrators and users

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Key competencies:
• Ability to work independently and to deliver outputs and work under pressure.
• Knowledge of the UN system and culture.
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Exposure to cross cultural and multi-ethnic working environment.
Academic Qualifications: • Degree in web design, computer science or related field.
• The work experience however will count more for this assignment than a specific degree.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in web and computer application services.
Language: • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, excellency in oral and written English is required.
