The ultimate result of the service will be the development, delivery and dissemination of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance which is an activity item in the DB Insurance Donor Agreement.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 300 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future.
UNEP FI signed a Donor Agreement with DB Insurance in October 2019. The consultant will contribute to the implementation of the Donor Agreement, specifically coordinating the development of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance.
UNEP FI currently does not have the internal capacity to undertake these activities, and hence outside expertise is required for this purpose.
Objectives, output expectations and performance indicators:
Assist UNEP FI with delivering the work plan agreed with DB Insurance in their Donor Agreement, the consultant is required coordinate the development, delivery and dissemination of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance.
Specific tasks and responsibilities:
As Project Coordinator for the development of the grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance, the consultant would manage and coordinate the development, delivery and dissemination of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance.
• Undertake outreach to engage Korean members and non-member financial institutions in the involvement of the project.
• Inform UNEP FI Secretariat of relevant news and developments.
• Contribute updates to regional web page and latest sustainability reports on UNEP FI website.
• Maintain contacts list of project stakeholders and update status when necessary.
• Through this project, contribute to collaborative agenda setting, knowledge sharing and awareness raising on the sustainable finance agenda with financial centre actors and public bodies and other relevant Korean stakeholders, building on UNEP FI’s network in Korea.
The consultant will report to the Head of UNEP FI as the Overall Supervisor and Asia Pacific Regional coordination Manager, UNEP FI as the Direct Supervisor.
Skills: Proven skills in building and managing relationships with a variety of private and public stakeholders. Ability to work in a multicultural environment. Proven knowledge in the fields of sustainable finance and the environment; financial services sector, knowledge/experience of the regional context. Ability to cope with comprehensive work programmes, multiple projects and activities in an organized and timely manner.
Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree in economics, finance, environmental studies, international relations, business administration or related fields.
Experience: At least five years of work experience, especially in international organisations, the financial services sector, private sector or NGOs examining the intersection between sustainability and finance.
Language: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages are an asset. Fluency in Korean is required for this position.
