Result of Service

Through the work of the incumbent, the CTCN will operationalize its Youth Climate Technology Programme. The incumbent will also identify and recommend potential key partners and opportunities, and support capacity building of youth through knowledge sharing and demonstration activities in the context of climate technology and development. Furthermore, the CTCN’s current strategies in addressing climate change will be assessed from a youth perspective.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) promotes the accelerated transfer of environmentally sound technologies for low-carbon and climate resilient development at the request of developing countries. Among its key services, the Centre provides tailored technology solutions, capacity building and knowledge sharing. As part of its service delivery, the CTCN mandate from Decision 2/CP.17 states that the CTCN is to facilitate the preparation and implementation of technology projects and strategies taking into account youth considerations to support action on mitigation and adaptation. At the beginning of 2020, the CTCN developed a new work programme in collaboration with the UNFCCC youth constituency, YOUNGO to engage youth in climate technology innovation and implementation. The program also aims at promoting existing innovation capacity of young people to deliver endogenous climate technology solutions in their countries as well as supporting mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The consultant will support the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) with outreach and engagement with regard to youth. In particular he/she will engage in:
· Update and visualization of qualitative and quantitative information from CTCN technical assistance and capacity building
· Initiating and contracting of knowledge and youth projects
· Training of CTCN Secretariat staff with regard to monitoring & evaluation and knowledge management
· Coordination of IT-related development and maintenance related to the CTCN knowledge management system, including occasional webinar event organization and hosting.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: · Has very good communication skills, written and spoken.
· Knowledge of climate technology from an international perspective and/or interest in the work of CTCN is required
· Knowledge on youth activism and youth-led climate action and/or youth development challenges is required
· Knowledge of climate agenda and relevant internationally agreed outcomes (SDGs, NDCs) is considered as an asset
Academic Qualifications: • Enrolled or completed master’s degree or equivalent, in environmental studies, governance, climate studies, youth, social science, development studies, or related field is required
Experience: · Demonstrated track record in development of conceptual models, frameworks programmes and/or projects in the field of climate, environment based on substantive analysis is required
· Demonstrated experience in developing advocacy and knowledge products, guidance manuals, toolkits and publications is considered as an asset
· Strong experience in presenting key messages using text and visuals, including development of manuals and infographics for practitioners is considered as an asset
· A relevant experience in the field of youth empowerment and climate action (support to youth participation in climate action as an activist, young educator or youth worker) is considered as an asset
· Experience working in a developing country context and/or working in an international organization is considered as an asset
Language: · Strong communication and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
