Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship is located in the Analytics and Project Management Section of the Business Transformation and Accountability Division of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC).

The DMSPC/BTAD Analytics and Project Management team develops dashboards and other online platforms to support monitoring and reporting on performance; promotes business innovation and new ways of working, taking a long-term view of how the UN’s business model is aligned with evolving mandates, changing operational environments, as well as changes in the workplace and society-at-large; coordinates portfolio of transformational projects, ensuring projects are designed, communicated and implemented according to best practices in change and project management.

The internship programme is for a period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work up to five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

As part of the DMSPC/BTAD Analytics and Project Management team the Intern will support the development and implementation of projects and initiatives with a focus on innovation, communication and outreach.

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned team as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

- Supports APM in communication with clients and stakeholders, including providing guidance on information and training materials, making presentations to all staff and coordinating events and workshops;
- Assists the APM Service to collect and analyze the client data for business readiness planning
- Assists the Service to coordinate briefings, client meetings and partnership discussions including preparation of the data and materials, following up actions from the meeting etc.
- Supports staff engagement, workshops, dialogues, and other learning opportunities to help staff adopt new ways of working.
- Experiments with and explores new tools and approaches to improve team processes
- Brings creative thinking to the team and being willing to share
- Performs other duties as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
• Be computer literate in standard office software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required; and fluency of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.
