Result of Service

The ILP seeks a Programme Associate to support financial systems research, project management and communications and to help develop the next phase of leadership projects. Candidates should be well-versed in research, analytics and a clear writer, with the ability to synthesise complicated financial and sustainability topics this will comprise about 70% of the role. Project management is expected to comprise about 20% of the role, a final 10% will work to help communicate project outcomes.

- Undertake research, analysis and drafting of topics covering the financial systems and sustainability nexus (70%)
- Support project management and development of future leadership projects (20%)
- Distill information and help communicate project outcomes to a wider audience working closely with the communications team. (10%)

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic public-private partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 400 financial institutions, which are signatories to the UNEP FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partners and organisations, to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance.

In June 2021, UNEP FI and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) launched the Investment Leadership Programme. The Investment Leadership Programme (ILP) is a joint initiative from UNEP FI and PRI created to accelerate the pace of collaboration amongst leading investors and boost action on achieving key global sustainability objectives such as the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. ILP includes projects such as the UN-Convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance and the Legal Framework for Impact.

The ILP seeks a Programme Associate to support financial systems research, project management and communications and to develop the next phase of leadership projects. Project management is expected to comprise about 20% of the role, a final 10% will work to communicate project outcomes. The Associate will work with UNEP FI and PRI communications teams to disseminate content.

• Work with ILP lead and PRI on Financial Systems thought piece.
o Undertake qualitative and quantitative research
o Create draft document.
o Consult key stakeholders
o Manage stakeholder consultation and feedback.
o Update and finalise thought piece.
o Creation of key documents, messaging in coordination with ILP Lead, PRI and communications colleagues.
o Coordination on infographics/design, undertake proofreading.
• ILP work plan and workshop
o Work with ILP Lead to develop work plan.
o Support logistics and organization of workshop.
o Support workshop delivery, notetaking and reporting on outcomes.
o Support development of document.
o Develop project management dashboard.
o Crisis communications, holding statements, responses
o Q&A briefing documents
• Investment Banking Roadmap project plan
o Undertake research and consult key stakeholders to develop outline/scope and project plan for Investment Banking Roadmap
o Support sponsorship/fundraising coordination and outreach.
• Support development of Business Plan for 2022
o Provide inputs on business plan elements.
o Develop and maintain list of key activities and events to align with.
• Support new project launch preparations
o Develop project plan with timeline and milestones
o Contribute to raising funds to project delivery.

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI. The consultant will report to the Membership and Regional Coordination Manager, working closely with the Investment Leadership Programme Lead. The consultant will also work closely with communications colleagues including the UNEP FI Communications Lead.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Familiarity and solid understanding of the sustainable finance agenda, particularly as it relates to institutional investor leadership, including the main standards, norms, frameworks and players that currently define this field. Experience copyediting multiple drafts on sustainability issues for clarity and tone in English. Proficient communicator of technical information to a broad audience.

Academic Qualifications: Master’s Degree in one of the following or related areas: communications, writing, English, economics, finance, business administration and management or equivalent experience. Additional academic background in other, non-finance specific fields is relevant.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in sustainability and finance issues. Knowledge of financial systems functioning, sustainability issues, investment banking and project management an asset. Fundraising skills and business development an additional asset.

Language: For this position fluency in English is required. Other languages are an advantage.
