Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship is located in the Sustainable Energy Division (SED) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Geneva, Switzerland. For a duration of 03 months that can be extended to 06 months, during the period from 15 September 2021 to 30 September 2022.

Responsibilities

The intern is expected to contribute to the work of the Sustainable Energy Division as follows:

a) To assist in the organisation and servicing of the intergovernmental meetings in the areas covered by the Division, including energy for sustainable development, energy security, energy efficiency, cleaner electricity systems, renewable energy, coal mine methane, methane management, natural gas and resource classification and management.

b) To conduct research, draft studies and short articles and prepare promotional material related to a number of the above listed fields.

c) To assist the secretariat and national experts in data collection, including through web search, and preparation of documentation for the above listed fields.

d) To carry out other tasks as required in the Division, such as meeting support, drafting of reports and updating the UNECE databases.

Education

To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); (c) Have graduated with a university degree, as defined above, and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications;

For this internship, studies in energy, sustainable development, economics, international relations or equivalent are required.

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French or Russian is an asset.
