High quality translated documents in support of the implementation of the Secretariat’s work plan.

UN, UNEP and CITES terminology must be respected and coherency in the vocabulary used must be maintained. Verification of terminology and accuracy of quotations reproduced are responsibility of the translator. In case of text ambiguity, the translator should contact the officer requesting the translation for clarification, preferably by email. The translator will use the official documents of the CITES, UNEP and UN as reference sources. These documents are published in the following websites: www.cites.org (CITES), www.unep.org (UNEP), and www.un.org (UN).

Expected duration

Duration of contract: 1st October – 31 December 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities

The individual contractor will be translating documents and other information, from the original English version into French that pertain to and are in the support of the Secretariat work programme for 2020-2022, in particular the coming Standing, Animals and Plants Committee meetings documents.
Terms of payment: upon submission of a detailed invoice and for the actual number of words translated into English: CHF 250.00 per 1000 words.

Qualifications/special skills

Excellent skills in translating documents and other information from English into French. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset. Proven knowledge of terminology used in the UN, UNEP and the CITES Secretariat.

Excellent writing and linguistic skills; highest standards of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the spirit, style and nuances of submitted documents. Good grasp of terminological and reference research techniques. Ability to work against tight deadlines.
