In line with the work programme delivered during the UNEP FI Annual General Meetings and under the direct supervision of Liesel van Ast, UNEP FI Secretariat, the consultant will carry out the following project tasks for the UNEP FI Communications Programme of Work – as shown below.
• Implement a global communications strategy that has clear objectives, messaging and transmission channels for each target audience.
• Maintain a strong brand for UNEP FI, including impactful and fit-for-purpose publications, web site, videos, social media.
• Develop and implement project and topic-based communications strategies across communications channels and strengthen existing communications delivery, with a specific focus on messaging for key stakeholder groups (financial institutions, donors, governments, etc.).
• Develop and coordinate content for websites, social media and UNEP FI communications material to build internal and external visibility and increase interest among key stakeholder groups.

The duration of the contract would be 10 months.

Objectives
• Implement a global communications strategy that has clear objectives, messaging and transmission channels for each target audience.
• Maintain a strong brand for UNEP FI, including impactful and fit-for-purpose publications, web site, videos, social media.
• Develop and implement project and topic-related communications strategies and strengthen existing communications products, with a specific focus on messaging for key stakeholder groups (financial institutions, donors, governments, etc.).
• Develop and coordinate content for websites, social media and UNEP FI communications material to build internal and external visibility and increase interest among key stakeholder groups.
• Coordinate on internal UN communications processes.
Output Expectations
• Ensure that all external communications are coordinated in terms of delivery and have a common branding and style. Assist in the development of relevant templates (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) to facilitate this.
• Provide editorial support – including copy-editing and proof-reading.
• Oversee the development, production and distribution of all core publications.
• Lead the promotion of UNEP FI’s publications and news in the appropriate channels.
• Lead the preparation of publicity brochures, factsheets, policy papers, case studies, promotional videos, photographs, multimedia material, etc. as well as in recommending new communications products.
• Coordination of service providers where applicable (designers, video producers, etc.)
• Coordinate content for UNEP FI website and microsites (UNEPFI.org etc), direct online strategy and complete daily web updates.
• Assist with development of websites and other web requirements with the digital coordinator.
• Coordinate members’ extranet content and updates.
• Establish key tracking and performance indicators and review web metrics reports related to most read content.
• Coordinate three social media channels including writing content and posting.
• Lead and support team members on press engagement, maintaining a high-quality media database and media monitoring reports as needed.
• Organize press conferences, press briefings, interview and media events if appropriate.
• Lead other external communications activities on behalf of UNEP FI as necessary.
• Support the UNEP FI Workstream leads (Climate Change and Social Issues), Investment and Insurance Industry leads –and Regional Coordinators in communicating their work.
• Support the UNEP FI team in their outreach work with members, other financial institutions, other UN agencies, NGOs, think-tanks.
• Write and distribute member communications and email campaigns, as well as monthly newsletters and the Members’ Handbook.
• Support across teams on communications planning and internal processes.
• Coordinate on communications campaigns with colleagues across projects and workstreams.

• Promotion of work produced by Investment Leadership Programme
• Coordination of inputs for internal UN communications processes
The consultant will report to Membership & Regional Coordination Manager. The consultant will work in close coordination with communications colleagues and others in UNEP FI’s Secretariat.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural and geographically dispersed environment; Interest in economics, business, finance, or environmental sciences; Ability to cope with heavy workloads, multiple and diverse projects in an organized and timely manner; Attention to detail. The incumbent is expected to work independently and must have significant latitude to be self-directed and be highly motivated.
Academic Qualifications: A Master University degree is required relevant to communications, marketing, design, public / media relations, business, finance, environment, sustainability, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience: At least seven years working experience in communications. Up-to-date proficiency with communications best practices, including social media. Experience in implementing communications strategies. Exceptional proven writing, editing and written communication skills. Creative and resourceful strategist with a track record of proactivity. Experience of working with the financial sector (banking, insurance and/or investment).
Language: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.
