Result of Service

The consultant will support UNCTAD's SSE project by taking the lead on a training programme for stock exchange issuers on the adoption and implementation of best practices in climate disclosure. The consultant will support other work of the SSE including background documentation for SSE events of the UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2021, where the consultant will support the delivery of a substantive session on climate disclosure.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will assist with the conception, design and delivery of training programmes on climate disclosure as part of the Division’s Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) project and a joint training programme with IFC World Bank Group. This will include:
1. The conceptualization and drafting of training materials on climate disclosure in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and related UNCTAD-SSE publications including the SSE Model Guidance on Climate Disclosure.
2. Preparation of two types of training sessions, divided into two distinct levels of training, including basic introductory information (“TCFD 101”) and more advanced information (“TCFD 102”). Each training session should be approximately 2 hours in total.
3. Drafting of two detailed slide decks to facilitate delivery of each training programme (TCFD 101 and 102).
4. Development of questions to test participants knowledge and understanding of the training materials and integration of these questions into the course content of training sessions 101 and 102.
5. Delivery of two sessions (101 and 102) for each recipient market covered by the training programme.
6. Delivery of training for approximately 20 markets (with two sessions per market).
7. Outreach and communications with stock exchanges hosting the exchanges to facilitate integration of their participation, answering of substantive questions and transmission of supporting documents and course materials.
8. Production of a video recording of the training session for future use in virtual e-learning programmes.
9. Collection and retention of feedback from participants and hosting stock exchanges on the efficacy and impacts of the training sessions for evaluating and reporting purposes, including through the use of participant surveys.
10. Prepare a Results and Impact Report to summarize the deliverables conducted under the training including the results of evaluation surveys.
11. Perform other related duties including assistance with the conception, design and implementation of a session at the 2021 World Investment Forum on the topic of stock exchanges and climate disclosure, including preparation of necessary background documentation, speaking points and summary reports.

General:
Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of tasks necessary for the Sustainable Stock Exchanges project and the final delivery of the work unit’s events at the World Investment Forum 2021.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree in business administration, finance, law or economics is required. Two years additional qualifying experience with a basic university degree can be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: At least 4 years progressively responsible experience working for a stock exchange is required. Experience working on sustainability issues is desirable.
Language: Fluency in English required, knowledge of another UN language an asset.
